We are using org.springframework.orm.hibernate5.LocalSessionFactoryBean to create the SessionFactory. We don't modify the PhysicalConnectionHandlingMode or ConnectionReleaseMode.

FYI, our next GA version, version 15, will have support for Hibernate 5.2. If you need this now, we can create a patch for you built on top of 14.5. XAP 14.5 is certified against Hibernate 5.1.
