Remote Services with Space Mode Context Loader

As I understand it, the remote services need to be defined in pu.xml (which gets loaded on primary and backup PUs). I tried to move the os-remoting:service-exporter definition to mode.xml, but got errors when using the remote services.

The remote service we defined makes connections to a couple of external systems (SOAP, TCP, DB). We would like the backup PU not make these connections - those beans should only be loaded in the primary.

What are our options in this case... is there a way to acheive this or are we forced to run with only 1 instance (w/o the mode.xml).

Any business logic that is colocated with the backup space instance is active only once the colocated space becomes a primary.
Do you see any activity done with services running with the backup?

You can verify if the colocated business logic is active via the primary-backup notifications:
