Startup slow

I've setup a launch configuration to run an IntegratedProcessingUnitContainer, but what happens on startup is that for around 5 minutes it does nothing, and then suddenly starts (to be exact: the javaw.exe is launched 1:44:31, the first logging output is 1:50:52). Then, within seconds, it starts webster, reggie, and the spaces configured.

The only "out of the ordinary" setting is "-Dcom.gs.jini_lus.groups=L-LWR308207" - we're working in a workgroup of laptops and constantly messing around in each other's dev environment is messy :)

What could be causing this?

Is this windows or linux?
How your hosts file looks like?
Do you have antivirus installed?

Make sure the hosts file includes the machine IP and all the machine can really ping each other.
Please disable antivirus sw running on the space machine or any windows network security.

If you need different space for each environment I suggest using different space names and not different groups.

This how you can use unicast discovery and not multicast discovery.

Remember the lookup groups is ignored with unicast discovery mode.

Never mind, Shay - the pu had a mirror space definition, but my local VMware that runs MySQL was not running. Still strange that it takes a full five minutes to find that out...

With MySQL present, startup takes 5 secs :)

So you might want to change the database connection timeout to have shorter value.

We just junked the whole persistence definition in the PU. YAGNI - the business hasn't yet added a requirement that data needs to survive between restarts ;-)
