Newbie question: How to set up and point at a remote space?

I have just started looking at Gigaspaces and I am using the .Net examples.

I have HelloWorld working fine locally with the embedded space. I want to start Gigaspace on a remote server and get HelloWorld to point there and use the remote space.

This seems like a simple task but I can't see any examples of how to do it.

I have Gigaspace running on the server (running gsInstance.bat) and I tried simply pointing at it (I used jini in the address but I have no idea if that is correct) "jini://<ipaddress>/*/space" but that didn't work.

Firstly is there anything I have to do on the server to expose the space? Secondly how do I point at it from the client?

Any pointers to where this sort of stuff is documented would be appreciated. The API docs seem quite exhaustive but I don't see simpler stuff about setting it up and configuring it.

Thanks, Vin

Here is what you need:

This will provide you step by step guide how to build your application.

More about the space URL can be found here:

in the most cases you will use the following to connect to remote space(cluster):

Found the answer to the first parts of the question. I started StartAll.bat on the server and put the url as jini://

/*/mySpace and it connects.

I'd still like to know where the higher level docs are since my next task is to split the cache across two machines and I assume there has to be an example of how to configure this but I can't see it.

Thanks for that, it gets me part way there (I think).

I probably should have mentioned this in the first post but I am using XAP not EDG, I don't know if that makes a difference.

When I load the Gui and look in the "Deployments, Details" tab the "Deploy a new application" button is disabled. I can see the 2 GSC but I can't deploy.

Am I missing something or is there a different way to distribute the cache when using XAP (full version not Community) ?

There is no difference between XAP and EDG here. In both cases you should be able to deploy partitioned space.

You need to deploy only spaces. This is done via the “Enterprise Data Grid” option. See http://www.gigaspaces.com/wiki/downlo...

Have you started a GSM? If not - this might explain your problem.

That was the problem. I was running the 2 gsc but not the gsm.

Thanks, Vin
